The problem
Parliament produces a constant flow of acts, bills, committee work, reports and questions, spread across many documents and updates. Newsrooms have limited time to follow it all, so important changes can pass with little public attention.
What we built
Parliament Watch gives newsrooms one place to track parliamentary updates:
- Acts: new laws and amendments as they are passed
- Bills: where each bill stands as it moves through parliament
- Committees: what each committee is working on
- Reports: reports as they are published and tabled
- Questions: questions raised in parliament and the answers given
How it helps transparency
Parliamentary records are public, but being public isn't the same as being easy to follow. Parliament Watch turns a scattered record into updates reporters can act on. When more of what happens in parliament reaches the news, more people can see what is being decided in their name, and while it is still being decided.
How it helps accountability
Accountability depends on someone noticing. Following all of this over time makes it easier to spot a bill that has stalled, a law that changed quietly, a report that was ignored or a question that never got a clear answer. Reporters can then put those questions to the people responsible, with the record to back them up.
