The problem
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act gives people rights over their personal data, but using those rights isn't simple. Most people don't know what they can ask for, who to ask or what to do if nobody replies.
What Haq does
Haq means "right", and it guides people through a privacy request from start to finish:
- Know your rights: a plain-language guide to what the Act gives you, including access to information about your data, correction and erasure, grievance redressal and nominating someone to act for you
- Make a request: work out what to ask for and which organization to send it to
- Follow it through: know what to do if an organization doesn't respond, including taking a complaint to the Data Protection Board of India
Why it matters
A right only protects people if they can use it. Haq helps turn the rights in the Act into requests that people can actually make.
